Hyundai Robotics, Hyundai Heavy Industries (HHI) Holdings’ robot business, is showcasing new smart factory systems and technologies at Korea’s biggest exhibition for smart factory and industrial automation.

In the capacity of the chair of Korea Smart Manufacturing Industry Association (KOSMIA), Hyundai Robotics is participating in “Smart Factory + Automation World 2019” held at COEX Convention Center in Seoul from March 27 to 29, occupying a 512㎡ booth which is the largest scale in the exhibition’s history.

At this exhibition, Hyundai Robotics is demonstrating how its smart construction system would work on site in various industries ranging from manufacturing, automobile and shipbuilding to service industries, while also unveiling for the first time its trademark H!-FACTORY, a comprehensive smart factory platform.

Capable of real-time data analysis throughout the entire production process, this cutting-edge platform offers a smart factory system that automatically controls and operates manufacturing equipment and logistics systems, which comes in a software and hardware package.

Present at the opening ceremony of the exhibition were Sung Yunmo, the Minister of Trade, Industry and Energy; Hong Jong-haak, the Minister of SMEs and Startups; You Young-min, the Minister of Science and ICT; and representatives of key supporters including the Korea Smart Factory Foundation (KOSF) among others. HHI Holdings’ Vice President Chung Ki-sun also attended the ceremony and subsequently had meetings with major clients, discussing smart factory businesses.

According to MarketsandMarkets , a US research and consulting company, the global smart factory market is projected to be valued at USD 206.2 billion by 2020, a sharp growth from USD 121 billion in 2016.

Claiming the largest share in the domestic market for industrial robots, Hyundai Robotics is focusing its efforts to stand as a leader pioneering the smart factory market based on its 30 years of history in the robotic automation technology, signing in early March a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with POSCO ICT to develop smart factory solutions.

Hyundai Robotics is taking these efforts beyond the borders of Korea. Under an agreement signed with Chinese robot maker Jiangsu Hagong Intelligent Robot (HGZN) in September last year, Hyundai Robotics, together with HGZN, established a joint venture for industrial robots in Shanghai and successfully completed the construction of a smart factory there, which is capable of building 20,000 robots a year.

“Not only will this exhibition give us new momentum for our development of hi-tech robots and software technologies such as analysis of big data, Internet of Things and artificial intelligence, but this will also serve as a stepping stone for us to grow into a comprehensive smart factory business by joining hands with various partners such as KT and Naver Labs,” said a source at Hyundai Robotics.
